VICTIM 10 – Shirley Robinson May 10th, 1978
Shirley Robinson first lodged with the Wests in April 1977, when she was 17. She soon formed a sexual threesome with the couple, and in May 1978 she was 8 months’ pregnant. Rose told others that Fred was the father (Rose was also pregnant at the time).
Shirley disappeared in May 1978, and her body showed no sign of the torture and sexual abuse other victims had suffered. So, the prosecution suggested that she was killed because she was a threat to the marriage.
Fred dismembered Shirley and removed the baby from her body, before he buried her in the Cromwell Street garden.
VICTIM 12 – Alison Chambers August 5th 1978
16-year-old Chambers was in foster care from the age of 14, and in 1978 she ran away from the Jordan’s Brook home. The Wests met her and took her in to act as a nanny to the children.
However, within a few weeks, she had disappeared. Fred said she had died when Rose had become too violent with her, and her body showed no signs of being tied up or taped as others had. He body was found in the garden.
Charles was the final victim killed for sexual reasons.
VICTIM 13 – Heather West June 19th, 1987
The final confirmed victim of the Wests was their own daughter Heather. She underwent years of physical and sexual abuse. She told siblings and her friends about her suffering, and her teachers were also concerned.
Heather left school in 1986, and she started applying for jobs to escape the misery. She pinned al her hopes on a holiday camp job in Torquay, but she was rejected. She was last seen the next day, June 19th.
When the rest of the children got home from school that evening, Heather was gone. Her parents said the holiday camp had offered her the job and so she was gone to Devon. But Fred told neighbours she had run away after a row.
The children kept pressurising Fred to report Heather as a missing person, but he kept changing his story. Fred even joked on occasions that if the children were naughty, they could end up “under the patio like Heather”.
