VICTIM 1 – Anne McFall                 November 1967

Anne was 8 months pregnant in November 1967, when she disappeared. Fred did not report her disappearance, but her dismembered remains were found in 1994. She had been buried at the edge of a cornfield near Much Marcle. Some finger bones were missing, suggesting West had kept fingers as trophies. The foetus may also have been cut out from the womb.

West eventually admitted her murder when in prison.

ROSEMARY

Rosemary Letts was just 15 when she met Fred West for the first time, at Cheltenham bus station. She was flattered by his attention, and became Fred’s lover and a stand-in nanny for his children.

Rose’s parents were horrified when they met West, and reported the situation to social services, who placed Rose in a second home for her own protection. She left it on her 16th birthday, and moved into Fred’s Cheltenham flat.

By February 1970, she was pregnant, and place din care once again. She promised to terminate the pregnancy and return to her parents, so was released – and went back to Fred.

By now Fred was committing petty crimes, and served several short prison sentences for theft. Rose gave birth to Heather in October 1970, and was now acting as mother to the other two girls as well. She beat and abused them regularly, but Charmaine stood up to her.

VICTIM 2 – Charmaine West        June 1971

Charmaine was last seen when she was taken by Rose to see her father in prison on 15 June 1971. Charmaine disappeared soon afterwards, before Fred was released, and Rose said she had gone to live with her mother.

In fact, Rose had killed Charmaine and put her body in the coal cellar. When Fred was released from prison two weeks later,  he buried her in the back yard. Like Anne McFall, bones were missing from her skeleton when Charmaine’s remains were exhumed in 1994 – possible trophies (all West’s victims had bones missing).

VICTIM 3 – Rena West                    August 1971

Rena had kept in contact with her children, even if it was sporadic, and was last seen alive I August 1971. She had gone to West’s parents’ home looking for her children. They gave her Fred’s Cheltenham address, but that was the last time anyone saw her alive.

Fred killed her, probably by strangulation in his car. She was dismembered and buried in plastic bags in a copse near Much Marcle.
